F.A.Q.
- What is Short Message Service?
Short Message Service (SMS) is a standard messaging protocol that delivers messages of 160 characters or less to a mobile network's short message center, where it then forwards them to a subscriber's mobile phone when the phone is on the network. This is called a mobile terminate (MT) text message. When the message travels in the opposite direction, starting at the handset, the message is designated mobile originate (MO).
How much does the end user pay for standard text messaging services?
Standard rate message bundles typically cost an end user between $4.99 and $14.99 per month, or $0.10 a message in a "pay as you go" model.
- What is Multimedia Messaging Service?
Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) is the next generation of messaging. It allows subscribers to send and receive voice, graphics, and video clips in addition to text messages.
- How does billing work for off-deck premium SMS services?
For premium message delivery (PSMS, WAP Push, MMS), the carrier bills the end user for the message on his mobile phone bill and then pays the aggregator, who in turn pays the content owner.
- What are common short codes?
Common short codes (CSCs) provide an easy method for wireless subscribers to request access to messaging-based applications. Managed by the Common Short Code Administration (www.usshortcodes.com), any application provider, or Orbital Mobile on behalf of its customers, can request a specific or randomly assigned short code of five or six digits in length. Once the short code is implemented and provisioned by carriers, any subscriber on a given network can participate in a messaging program by sending a message to the common short code address.
- Which carriers are connected to Orbital Mobile?
Orbital Mobile provides premium SMS delivery to customers of all Tier 1 North US, Europe, Canada and UK carriers and a substantial number of Tier 2 and Tier 3 carriers as well.
